Modeling the Curbside Congestion Effects of Ride-hailing Services for Morning Commute using Bi-modal Two-Tandem Bottlenecks
Summary (EN)
This paper develops a bi-modal two-tandem bottleneck model to represent morning commute congestion arising from ride-hailing drop-off activity at curb spaces, combining an upstream highway bottleneck with a downstream curbside bottleneck. The model captures interactions between highway travel and curb congestion caused by ride-hailing vehicles. The authors derive a time-varying optimal congestion pricing scheme combining curbside and parking pricing to achieve a social optimum. Numerical analysis illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed pricing scheme in reducing total system delay.
